Ellen Pompeo

November 10, 1969 in Everett Massachusetts.

All About Ellen:
Ellen is of Irish and Italian descent and was raised Catholic.  She was nicknamed “the pencil” and “Straciatella (which translation from Italian to “little rags” or “strings”) for her thin frame.  She first appeared in commercials such as Citibank and L'Oreal.  She began acting professionally in New York in the mid-1990s and got her first break in television as a guest star on Law and Order (two episodes 1996 and 2000).  She then made a name for herself in the movies after the role in the hit comedy Old School and smaller roles in the high-profile movies Moonlight Mile (2002), Catch Me if You Can (2002), and Daredevil (2003).  Grey's Anatomy made its debut in 2005 with Pompeo as Dr. Meredith Grey.  Pompeo was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series.  Pompeo married record producer Christopher Ivery on November 9, 2007 and reside in Los Angeles with their two mini poodles.

Considered "royally inbred" by the other interns, Meredith is the daughter of renowned surgeon, Dr. Ellis Grey, who recently passed away. Meredith was working on getting to know her father, Thatcher Grey until the death of his wife who he blames Meredith for and her newfound half-sister, Dr. Lexie Grey.

Notable Relationships:
Relationships are not exactly Meredith's strong point, as evidenced by her on-again, off-again boyfriend/boss, Dr. Derek Shepherd. We have seen her with a string of disastrous flings. Loveable vet, Finn Dandridge, was perhaps the most successful, while friend, George O'Malley, the most disastrous of them all!  After all that was said and done, she is now engaged to Derek after about two times of him asking she finally said YES!

Other:
Thanks to her last name, Meredith has a lot of high expectations and responsibility riding on her shoulders.

Social Life:
Meredith went traveling around Europe, but had to cut her trip short when her mother became ill.
